White Clover Seeds

 

When should I plant
The best time to sow white clover seed depends on your USDA Plant Hardiness Zone and local weather conditions. Generally, spring or early summer (April-May) is ideal, but late summer or early fall (August-September) can also work in milder climates.
Spring Sowing
For cool climates (Zones 3-6), sow white clover in early spring after the last frost when soil temperatures reach at least 50°F (10°C). In mild to warm regions (Zones 7-10), spring planting can begin earlier, but avoid hot summer temperatures by sowing before late spring.
Fall Sowing
In cold regions (Zones 3-6), plant white clover in early fall to allow enough time for establishment before winter. For warmer climates (Zones 7-10), fall planting is ideal in mid to late fall, as cooler temperatures and seasonal rains promote strong root growth without summer heat stress.

Site consideration
White clover seeds thrive in cool, moist environments and tolerates a range of soil conditions, but prefers well-drained, fertile soils with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. Consider its adaptability to different climates and its nitrogen-fixing ability when choosing a site. Don't plant too deep; 1/8 to 1/4 inch is usually sufficient.

Water
Keep the soil consistently moist during germination (first 2–4 weeks).Once established, white clover is drought-tolerant but grows best with regular rainfall or light irrigation.
Sunlight
Requires 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day for best result.

Seed Germination
Germination typically takes 7–14 days at soil temperatures of 65–70°F. Scarification (lightly scratching the seed coat) can improve germination rates.Ensure good seed-to-soil contact by raking or rolling after broadcasting.

Seeding Rate
1-2lb per 1,000 square feet. For overseeding, reduce the rate by 30–50%.

Other Elements
Fertilization
White clover fixes nitrogen, so avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers. Apply phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) if soil tests indicate deficiencies.Lime may be needed if pH is below 6.0.

Weed control
Control weeds before planting by tilling or using a non-residual herbicide.Mow regularly to suppress weeds without harming clover.Avoid broadleaf herbicides after establishment—they can kill clover.

Seed Storage
The seeds will maintain a high germination percentage if stored under proper conditions. How long your seeds remain viable will depend on the temperature and moisture levels the seeds are exposed to. Seeds which are improperly stored will quickly deteriorate if unprotected against high humidity and dramatic temperature fluctuations day after day.

For best results, keep the seed in our moisture-proof ziplock sealing bags, which provide a better moisture prevention effect. Glass jar or plastic containers with snap-on lids works well too, add a packet of desiccant before sealing into the seed, such as silica gel to remove any moisture remains in the storage container. Seed stored under these conditions will remain viable for as long as years.
Factors Which commonly Cause Poor Results

1. Improper drainage soil
2. Sowing depth more than one inch 
3. Covering the seed too deep beneath the soil surface
4. Cover a large area with a small amount of seed. 
5. Plant at a wrong time of a year
6. Lack of sunlight
7. Inadequate rainfall after seed germination. The area should not be allowed to become completely dry. Supplemental watering may be required to sustain plant life.
8. Extreme weather conditions: hail, drought, excessive rainfall, floods, unseasonably cold temperatures.
